India vs Pakistan: Jasprit Bumrah celebrated by mimicking Haris Rauf’s aeroplane gesture after bowling him out in the Asia Cup final at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
Jasprit Bumrah on Sunday night gave a befitting reply to Haris Rauf’s aeroplane celebration when India and Pakistan locked horns in the first-ever Asia Cup final. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium was lit up with Bumrah’s gesture of downing an aircraft after cleaning up Rauf in the penultimate over.
Bumrah delivered a scorching yorker that shattered Rauf’s off stump in the penultimate over. What followed stunned fans — the pacer mimicked Rauf’s dipping flight gesture, smiling as he celebrated.
Nobody saw that coming, not even Haris Rauf. The pacer made similar gestures last Sunday when Pakistan squared off against India in the Super 4s. The men in green were hammered asusual by the Suryakumar Yadav & Co. And when Rauf was fielding closer to the boundary, the Indian fans pocked him with ‘Kohli-Kohli’ chants, referencing the match-winning sixes that Virat Kohli hit off the pacer during the 2022 T20 World Cup game in Melbourne.
Baffled with the chanting, Rauf made the controversial ‘6-0’ and dowing an aeroplane gestures, in reference to Pakistan’s unsubstantiated claims that they downed six Indian fighter jets during the four-day border conflict following Operation Sindoor.
The pacer also faced the consequences of his actions. The BCCI logded an official complaint with ICC, accusing Rauf of hurting the sentiments of the people of India. The governing body, in reply, slapped the pacer with hefty fine – 30% of his match fee.
Pakistan Suffer Worst Collapse Ever
Pakistan went off to a flying start after being asked to bat first. Sahibzada Farhan smashed a second consecutive fifty against India and also stitched a solid 84-run opening stand with Fakhar Zaman. But the Indian spin troika of Kuldeep (4/30 in 4 overs), Axar Patel (2/26 in 4 overs) and Chakravarthy (2/30 in 4 overs) literally choked them in the back-10 to bring India right back in the match.
From 113 for one at one stage when Fakhar and Saim Ayub were batting, wickets fell like nine pins once Kuldeep got rid of the latter.
