Former Delhi batsman-turned-administrator Mithun Manhas feels his ‘work and credentials’ might have helped him to get Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) top post.

Having steered Jammu & Kashmir cricket as technical director helping it grow steadily, Manhas had displayed fine administrative skills combined with cricketing pragmatism.

“Maybe my work, my credentials (worked in my favour to become the president). Credentials both as an administrator, as well as a cricketer (led to my being chosen),” he told The Indian Express.

Manhas’ name was a surprise in cricketing circles, especially with the Indian board preferring heavyweight names, to hold top positions in the past, even when choosing former cricketers.

Manhas, who replaced Roger Binny, has been an administrator in Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) for last few years.

“It’s an absolute honour to be the president of the world’s finest cricketing board. And it’s at the same time, a huge responsibility as well. I give my assurance that I’ll be committed to do it to the best of my abilities and with dedication and passion,” Manhas said after taking charge as Indian board president on Sunday, where he was elected unopposed.

Manhas stated that he has a lot of ideas in his mind, and having worked at JKCA will help him perform the duties in BCCI

The Indian board now has several new office bearers in place, with all candidates elected unopposed.

Apart from Manhas, Rajeev Shukla was elected vice-president, Devajit Saikia as secretary, Prabhtej Bhatia as joint secretary, Raghuram Bhatt comes in as treasurer while Jaydev Shah was added as an Apex Council member.

Manhas added, “As an administrator, as a cricketer, as well, for the past 4 years, I’ve been working at the JKCA. And we qualified (for Ranji Trophy quarterfinals) too. The whole agenda is development and to take BCCI forward.”
