PM Modi celebrated India’s victory in a thrilling Asia Cup 2025 finale against Pakistan by five wickets, taunting the neighbouring country by referencing Operation Sindoor.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Team India for a superb victory in a thrilling Asia Cup 2025 final against Pakistan, with a taunt towards the neighbouring country. PM Modi called the match ‘Operation Sindoor on the games field’ with a similar result.

Operation Sindoor on the games field. Outcome is the same – India wins! Congrats to our cricketers,” PM Modi said on X, after India defeated Pakistan by five wickets.

Prime Minister Modi’s message was significant as India-Pakistan matches were marked by political undertones, especially after Pakistan-linked terrorists launched a terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, gunning down 26 tourists.

The matches were marred by boycott calls as critics criticised the BCCI and the Indian government for playing against Pakistan after the terror attack. The Indian Armed Forces had launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, striking nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and killing 100 terrorists.

The operation sparked four days of cross-border confrontations before an understanding was reached to stop the hostilities on May 10. However, tensions remained high between India and Pakistan, even between the players on the field.

India Defeats Pakistan

Meanwhile, several political leaders hailed Team India’s performance in the final match against Pakistan, riding on Tilak Verma’s match-saving 69 from 53 balls that saw the Men in Blue bring their ninth Asia Cup home.

“My heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the Asia Cup cricket tournament. The team did not lose any match in the tournament, marking its dominance in the game. I wish Team India sustained glory in the future,” said President Droupadi Murmu.

“A billion hearts beat as one tonight! Team India defeats Pakistan to lift the Asia Cup 2025. From the first ball to the final roar, this journey has been about courage, unity & unmatched brilliance. This victory is Bharat’s pride, Bharat’s joy, Bharat’s inspiration,” said Union Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Put in to bat first, Pakistan started off well, with Sahibzada Farhan (57 off 38 balls) and Fakhar Zaman (46 off 35 balls) stitching an 84-run partnership within the first 10 overs. However, things fell apart when Pakistan collapsed in the middle overs, losing nine wickets in 33 runs.

India got off to a horror start, losing Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubhman Gill with only 20 runs on the board. However, Tilak Verma and Sanju Samson showed nerves of steel to guide India towards the victory target, and Shivam Dube pitching in with a crucial 33. It was Rinku Singh who scored the winning boundary, just as he wanted.

This was India’s ninth Asia Cup victory and a hat-trick of wins against Pakistan in the tournament.
