The Indian team were aggravated by Naqvi’s repost of an image on social media depicting Pakistan players in flight suits to the backdrop of fighter jets, captioned ‘Final Day’.
Team India secured a 5-wicket victory over Pakistan in the Asia Cup 2025 final on Sunday, successfully defending their title in the United Arab Emirates. However, after the win, India refused to accept the trophy from PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, who subsequently left the premises with the trophy, further complicating the situation.
According to reports, the Indian team were aggravated by Naqvi’s repost of an image on the social media platform X, formerly Twitter, that depicted Pakistan players wearing fighter suits to the backdrop of fighter jets, with the caption that read, ‘Final Day’.
India won the toss and elected to bowl first. Pakistan made a solid start with Sahibzada Farhan and Fakhar Zaman putting together 84 runs for the first wicket. Varun Chakravarthy dismissed Farhan after he scored 57 runs off 38 deliveries, reaching his half-century.
Saim Ayub added 14 runs before being dismissed by Kuldeep Yadav. Mohammad Haris was out for a duck, bowled by Axar Patel. Chakravarthy then removed Zaman for 46 runs, and Patel dismissed Hussain Talat for just 1 run.
Salman Ali Agha was dismissed by Kuldeep for 8 runs, who then took the wicket of Shaheen Afridi for a duck. Yadav completed his four-wicket haul by removing Faheem Ashraf for a duck. Jasprit Bumrah dismissed Haris Rauf for 6 runs and concluded Pakistan’s innings by taking the wicket of Mohammad Nawaz, who also scored 6 runs.
India had a shaky start as Abhishek Sharma was dismissed by Ashraf for just 5 runs, and captain Suryakumar Yadav was out for 1 run, bowled by Afridi. Ashraf struck again to remove Shubman Gill for 12 runs, while Abrar Ahmed dismissed Sanju Samson for 24 runs.
Tilak Varma and Shivam Dube steadied the chase with a 60-run partnership before Dube was dismissed for 33 runs by Ashraf. Rinku Singh joined Varma, and together they remained unbeaten on 4 and 69 runs respectively, completing the chase with two balls to spare.
