Salman Ali Agha defended Pakistan’s Asia Cup 2025 losses to India and vowed Pakistan will soon dominate as in the 90s despite recent defeats.

Salman Ali Agha, the Pakistan skipper, defended his team’s disappointing performances against India in the Asia Cup 2025. The men in blue defeated Salman Agha & Co by 5 wickets on Sunday night to win their 9th title in the history of the continental tournament. Moreover, it was Pakistan’s third defeat at the hands of India in two weeks.

Pakistan played 7 matches in the Asia Cup 2025, won 4 – against the UAE, Oman, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. They lost three, all against India. Moreover, Pakistan haven’t been able to beat India in the last 5 T20I encounters, including the Asia Cup final on Sunday.

Salm was asked if the team had been analysing the reason behind losing repeatedly to India. The Pakistan captain defended his team’s bad performance, stating that they will start winning like they dominated India in the 90s.

“We have analysed our performance. I accept that we haven’t played good cricket against India. But if you look at overall records, we are still ahead of them,” Salman said at the press conference.

“Every team has its era. It’s their time. Just like we dominated in the 90s. And you will see very soon, we will start beating them badly,” he added.

While Salman spoke about being much ahead of India. But the T20I stats paint a different picture. India and Pakistan played 13 T20Is, with India winning 13 and Pakistan pocketing 3. In the ODIs, the men in green do have an upper hand. Pakistan have won 73 out of 136 matches while India won 58.

Agha felt that the Indian team’s ‘No Handshake’ policy while playing Pakistan in the Asia Cup was “disrespectful” to the game and not the best example of sportsmanship for the young fans who look up to cricketers as role models.

“What India have done in this tournament is very disappointing. They are not disrespecting us by not shaking hands; they are disrespecting cricket. Good teams don’t do what they did,” the Pakistan skipper said.

For Salman, fulfilling obligations is a part of playing the sport.

“We went to pose with the trophy (photo shoot) on our own because we wanted to fulfil our obligations. We stood there and took our medals. I don’t want to use harsh words, but they’ve been very disrespectful,” he added.
