Australian all-rounder Ashleigh Gardner scored her maiden century in the Women’s ODI World Cup during the Australia vs New Zealand match in the 2025 edition on Wednesday.
Moreover, this was the 28-year-old batter’s second ton in ODIs — it was earlier this year that she scored her first 100 in the 50-over format, which came against England during the Women’s Ashes.
Gardner notched up her 100 in 77 balls with a boundary through the covers off Sophie Devine. Moreover, on the very next ball, she smacked the ball down the ground for another boundary to register her highest individual score in ODIs.
Her previous highest score was 102 earlier this year in that match against the English.
At the ACA Stadium in Guwahati, the middle-order batter walked in to bat when Australia was in a spot of bother at 128/5 in 21.2 overs.
She then formed partnerships with Tahlia McGrath, Sophie Molineux, and then Kim Garth to help the defending champion cross the 300-run mark and post a commanding total.
She was sent back for 115 (83) after she edged one back to wicketkeeper Izzy Gaze off Breearne Illing’s bowling in the 47th over.
