Jurel completed his maiden Test century for India on Friday by scoring a boundary on the last ball of the 116th over of the first innings.

Dhruv Jurel joined legendary Mahendra Singh Dhoni in an elite list on Friday (October 3) by scoring a century in the ongoing first India-West Indies Test in Ahmedabad. The century by Jurel on Day 2 of the first Test helped him become the sixth Indian wicketkeeper-batter to score a Test century against the West Indies.

Jurel completed his century by scoring a boundary on the last ball of the 116th over of India’s first innings. He needed 190 balls to reach his maiden international century for the Indian team.

Vijay Manjrekar was the first Indian wicketkeeper to score a century in Tests against the West Indies. He made 118 runs in the second innings of the Kingston Test played in 1953. In 1967, during the India-West Indies Test played at MA Chidambaram Stadium, Farokh Engineer scored 109 runs. Ajay Ratra joined them in the elite list in 2002, and MS Dhoni scored a Test century against the West Indies in 2011. Wriddhiman Saha, who became India’s first-choice stumper in Tests after Dhoni’s retirement, also scored a Test century against the West Indies in 2016.

In the ongoing match, Jurel came out to bat at No. 5 for the hosts and has added more than 175 runs for the fifth wicket with Ravindra Jadeja (batting on 80 from 137 balls).

He is the 12th Indian wicketkeeper to score a Test century. Of those 12 stumpers, five have scored their maiden hundred against West Indies (Vijay Manjrekar, Farookh Engineer, Ajay Ratra, Wriddhiman Saha, and now Jurel).

The century by Jurel is also the third century by a designated wicketkeeper for India in 2025 (two by Pant,  one by Jurel) – the most for them in a calendar year and the joint second most for any side in a calendar year behind South Africa’s four in 2013.
