On February 1, Jos Buttler made news by reaching a significant milestone when he was included in England’s lineup for the second T20I against Sri Lanka at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium.

This match marked Buttler’s 402nd international appearance, surpassing James Anderson’s previous record of 401 matches for England. Buttler becomes England’s most capped player across all formats.

Additionally, he is the leading run-scorer for England in T20 cricket.

For context, the record for the most international matches is held by former India captain Sachin Tendulkar, who played 664 matches for India from 1989 to 2013, scoring 34,357 runs and taking 201 wickets.

Buttler, from Taunton, has played 57 Tests, 199 ODIs, and 146 T20Is. He made his international debut in August 2011 against India and had a notable moment in his career during the 2022 T20 World Cup, where he led England to a final victory over Pakistan.

Buttler Prepared for T20 World Cup After Solid T20I Start

Looking forward, Buttler will participate in the upcoming T20 World Cup as a wicketkeeper-batter, having stepped down as captain after last year’s Champions Trophy. Harry Brook has taken over the captaincy role.

In the first T20I, Buttler had a quick impact, scoring 17 runs off 10 balls, including four boundaries. England won that match by 11 runs using the DLS method in a rain-affected 17-over game.

For the ongoing series, England is aiming for another victory against Sri Lanka on Sunday. The hosts have set a solid target of 189/5 after Brook won the toss and chose to bowl first.
