India is gearing up for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with the addition of Ayush Badoni and Priyansh Arya to the India A squad for warm-up matches. This decision highlights the team’s focus on evaluating new talent as the tournament starts on February 7.

India A Warm-up Matches in Navi Mumbai and Bengaluru

India A will play two warm-up matches to prepare for the World Cup. They will take on the United States in Navi Mumbai on February 2, followed by a match against Namibia in Bengaluru on February 6. These games aim to give less experienced players crucial exposure and assist the senior team in refining their strategy for the tournament.

These warm-up games will act as a chance for young players to showcase their skills as they aim for future International roles, particularly in T20 Cricket.

Ayush Badoni’s Steady Rise in Indian Cricket

Badoni has been selected due to his strong performances in various formats. The right-handed batter has represented India A in four-day and List A matches, known for his calm demeanor and flexibility. Earlier this month, he received his first senior call-up for the ODI series against New Zealand, showing that selectors are closely watching him.

His place in the India A squad indicates the selectors’ confidence in his ability to perform under pressure, especially as India seeks to enhance its middle-order options in limited-overs cricket.

Priyansh Arya’s Recognition for White-Ball Performance

Priyansh Arya is also making strides in the domestic arena. Compared to Badoni, Arya has mostly competed in white-ball formats at the ‘A’ level. His attacking style and consistent performances in domestic T20 and List A matches have earned him another chance to catch the selectors’ attention.

The upcoming warm-up matches are critical for Arya as he aims to secure a long-term role in India’s T20 lineup.

Tilak Varma Set for Comeback After Injury

In good news for India’s World Cup plans, Tilak Varma is expected to participate in the warm-up matches after receiving clearance from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Centre of Excellence. The Hyderabad batter has been out for almost a month due to surgery for an abdominal injury sustained during the Ranji Trophy.

The BCCI has confirmed that Tilak has resumed physical training and is recovering well. His return will add strength to the batting order.

Tilak is set to join the squad in Mumbai on February 3 and will play for India A in the warm-up match against the USA at the D.Y. Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on February 2, before joining the senior team for another warm-up match against South Africa on February 4 at the same venue.
