Usman Tariq, a rising star in Pakistan Cricket, has gained attention for his bowling style. While his talent is clear, he faces criticism regarding his suspected ‘chucking’ action.

In a recent T20I series against Australia, Usman’s bowling drew focus when Australian players, especially Cameron Green, expressed concerns about his deliveries. Green, upset after being dismissed, later apologized to Usman after reviewing the replays. Nonetheless, the question remains: what makes Usman Tariq’s bowling so noteworthy?

Usman’s action has puzzled umpires and batters alike. In the last Pakistan Super League (PSL), he was reported twice for his bowling action but was cleared on both occasions after testing.

Former International umpire Anil Chaudhary has stepped in to clarify why Usman’s action is considered legal despite ongoing criticism. He emphasized that Usman’s bowling adheres to the rules of cricket, debunking false accusations with clear reasoning.

Chaudhary shared a video on social media showcasing Usman’s bowling. He noted that, while the action may appear unusual, it complies with ICC guidelines. The umpire explained that Usman’s slightly side-on delivery and a brief pause at the crease are not issues, as he consistently delivers his balls in a similar manner.

According to Chaudhary, Tariq’s action shows no deviation in bending or straightening the elbow beyond allowed limits.

In the video, Anil Chaudhary addressed the issue:

“I’ve seen a video of Usman Tariq’s bowling action. His style is slightly different and side-on, but since he delivers all his balls consistently without bending or straightening his elbow excessively, the action is completely legal. Though it looks unique and has a pause, his consistency makes it a fair delivery.”

Usman Tariq’s unique bowling action helps him secure wickets effectively, allowing adaptability in his deliveries. He has taken eight wickets in three matches, with an average of 7.50 and an economy rate of 5.62.
