Trystan Stubbs, the South African wicketkeeper-batter for Delhi Capitals, has signed with Hampshire for the upcoming T20 Blast. He will join the team right after the 2026 Indian Premier League.
According to ESPN Cricinfo, Stubbs will play with Hampshire for three months, participating in the T20 Blast and The Hundred. The T20 Blast runs from May 26 to July 18, followed by The Hundred from July 21 to August 16. This allows Stubbs to utilize the gap in the South African International Cricket schedule.
The Delhi Capitals link at Hampshire
The GMR Group, part-owner of Delhi Capitals, acquired Rod Bransgrove’s stake in Hampshire in 2024 for almost £120 million, becoming a major shareholder in the club.
Additionally, they purchased 49% of the Southern Brave in The Hundred, strengthening their presence in the tournament.
Stubbs shone for Delhi Capitals, amassing over 600 runs in the past two seasons with an average exceeding 50. In 2024, he had a strike rate of 190, which slightly decreased to 150 in 2025. He will continue with the team for a third season.
With the DC connection, Stubbs enjoys a special status at Hampshire.
Coaching staff at Hampshire
Besides team dynamics, Stubbs has worked closely with Hampshire’s coaching staff. He recently played for Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the SA20 League, leading them to victory last month. The head coach, Adi Birrell, and assistant coach, Russell Domingo, are now part of Hampshire.
Hampshire’s cricket director, Giles White, expressed excitement about having Stubbs on board. He emphasized Stubbs’s talent and her connections to the club, stating:
“Tristan is a hugely talented player with strong connections to the club through his time at Delhi Capitals and his relationships with our coaches, past and present. He’s a wonderful addition, and having him involved is a massive boost for both our squad and the competition as a whole. We can’t wait to see him light up the Bowl.”
Hampshire has also secured both overseas player slots for the Blast, bringing back Australia’s Hilton Cartwright, who played a key role in their run to the final last season.
