The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a significant cash reward for the Under-19 team following their victory in the U19 World Cup. This comes after India’s impressive win over England by 100 runs at the Harare Sports Club in Zimbabwe, marking their sixth title in this tournament.

BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the reward, which aims to honor the players, support staff, and selectors for their undefeated run throughout the tournament. Although the ICC does not typically offer cash prizes for youth tournaments, the BCCI has stepped in to ensure the young players receive commendation for their achievements.

India Secures Sixth U19 World Cup Title with Impressive Performance

The final match showcased India’s dominance, as they accumulated a record total of 411/9 in 50 overs—making it the highest score ever in a U19 World Cup final. The standout player was Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a remarkable 175 runs from just 80 balls, including 15 fours and 15 sixes.

Suryavanshi’s innings broke the previous final record of 111 runs held by Unmukt Chand. Captain Ayush Mhatre added a solid contribution with 53 runs, while Abhigyan Kundu (40) and Kanishk Chouhan (37) played key roles in maintaining an imposing target for England.

Despite a determined century from England’s Caleb Falconer (115), the Indian bowlers, led by R.S. Ambrish and Deepesh Devendran, effectively restricted England to 311 runs, leading to celebrations as India solidified its position as a leading force in developing cricket talent.

BCCI Announces Reward for Team India After U19 World Cup Victory

BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla remarked that this victory reflects years of strategic investment in player development. He highlighted the importance of cultivating a deep talent pool that allows India to remain competitive across generations.

Secretary Saikia mentioned that this win boosts morale for the senior men’s team, which is starting its T20 World Cup campaign. The reward of ₹7.5 crore is viewed as an investment in encouraging the senior squad, which many expect will comprise players from this U19 team in the future.

“We are very happy. The whole country takes pride in our young champions. Their success not only brought joy but also serves as motivation for our senior men’s team as they kick off their T20 World Cup campaign today at home,” Saikia stated.

With this latest victory, India’s U19 team has further established itself with six titles, adding to their previous wins in 2000, 2008, 2012, 2018, and 2022.
