The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 kicked off in style at Eden Gardens in Kolkata, with West Indies competing against Scotland in a key Group C match. This game showcased the might of Caribbean Cricket and the determination of the Scottish team, culminating in a fantastic defensive play that thrilled the crowd.
Brandon McMullen makes a spectacular catch to dismiss Shimron Hetmyer
West Indies was led by a powerful innings from Shimron Hetmyer, who aimed to take his team beyond 200 runs. In the latter part of the innings, Hetmyer scored 64 runs off 36 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes. The game shifted dramatically on the last ball of the 19th over.
Safyaan Sharif bowled a high full toss that Hetmyer aimed to hit over the leg side. While he made solid contact, it didn’t go far enough. Brandon McMullen, positioned at wide long-on, displayed great athleticism as he sprinted to his left. As the ball looked set to slip away from him, McMullen made a full-length dive, catching it just inches from the ground.
This remarkable catch sent Hetmyer back to the pavilion at 175/4, halting the West Indies’ momentum. After a brief review for height, replays confirmed the ball was dipping, marking it as one of the best catches of the tournament. By this point, Scotland managed to limit the West Indies to 182/5, setting a competitive target on the fast Eden Gardens outfield.
