Oliver Davidson. On the third delivery, Davidson bowled wide, but Hetmyer skillfully hit a stunning shot over cover.

The ball sailed for six, marking a memorable moment: Hetmyer reached his half-century in just 22 balls, setting a new record for the fastest 50 by a West Indian in T20 World Cup history. The previous record was held by Gayle, who made a 23-ball 50 against Australia in June 2009. Hetmyer’s performance, totaling 64 runs off 36 balls and featuring five sixes, was crucial to the team’s success.

West Indies dominate with a strong total

The West Indies’ innings unfolded in two segments. The Powerplay began slowly, with Brandon King (35) and captain Shai Hope (19) contributing to a 54-run partnership for the first wicket over 8.2 overs. At the halfway point, they had posted a moderate 62/2.

After the drinks break, the pace drastically changed. Hetmyer and Rovman Powell (24 off 14) tore into the Scottish bowlers, putting together 50 runs in just 19 balls, leaving Scotland scrambling.

Even with some late dismissals, including two quick wickets by Safyaan Sharif and Brad Currie, the West Indies had already set a strong foundation. Contributions from Sherfane Rutherford (26 runs) and Romario Shepherd ensured they finished strong, with a win probability of 56.5%. As the players took a break, the main topic in Kolkata was Hetmyer’s remarkable display of power-hitting.
