Maheesh Theekshana played a key role in Match No. 6 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 against Ireland at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. After winning the toss, Ireland captain Paul Stirling chose to field first, allowing Sri Lanka to score a solid total of 163/6 in their 20 overs.

Theekshana made his mark early in the game during the fourth over. He took out Stirling on the second ball with a precise yorker that hit the base of the middle stump as Stirling tried to attack. This quick wicket disrupted Ireland’s chase significantly.

Theekshana maintained great control and celebrated his wicket with his typical archer-style gesture. Stirling managed only six runs off 13 balls, marking a disappointing start for Ireland.
