Suryakumar Yadav’s steady leadership has made things easier for Indian team’s head coach Gautam Gambhir, who believes the captain “ticks every box.” Gambhir mentioned that the team is fortunate to have Suryakumar leading during the ongoing T20 World Cup.

“Surya has simplified my role in this format. He is an excellent leader, not just because of his performance on the field or his batting skills,” Gambhir stated.

“It’s about how he connects with the players, communicates with them, and spends time with them. His calm demeanor on the field eases the pressure on me as a coach, allowing for an ideal atmosphere,” he added.

India won their first match against the USA on Saturday, with Suryakumar shining by scoring 84 runs off 49 balls, helping the team recover from an early batting collapse. India’s next match is against Namibia in New Delhi on Thursday.

“For me, Surya as a player is one thing, but as a leader, he has met all expectations. His leadership truly makes my job easier,” Gambhir said.

“It’s beneficial to have someone like him at the helm, especially since he makes the right decisions under pressure,” Gambhir added. Suryakumar, 35, was part of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team two years ago and took over leadership soon after Rohit Sharma’s retirement from International T20s.
