India has a strong history in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, having won the trophy twice—first in 2007 and again in 2024. The tournament’s 10th edition is currently taking place from February 7 to March 8, hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

India is in Group A with Pakistan, Namibia, the Netherlands, and the United States. As the defending champions, having won the 2024 T20 World Cup against South Africa, they aim for their third title, further showcasing their strength in this format.

Has India ever lost to an associate team in T20 World Cup history?

While major ICC tournaments are often led by full-member nations, associate teams have delivered unforgettable upsets. Teams like the USA, Namibia, and the Netherlands have surprised higher-ranked sides. Notably, in 2024, the USA beat Pakistan in their first World Cup, and Namibia triumphed over Sri Lanka in 2022. The Netherlands eliminated England in 2009.

India, however, has never lost to an associate nation in the T20 World Cup. They have faced teams like Afghanistan, Scotland, the USA, the Netherlands, and Namibia, maintaining a winning streak against these sides.

India came close to losing to an associate team in the 2026 edition when they faced the USA. The early batting struggles could have led to their first defeat in this category, but a key performance by Suryakumar Yadav helped secure the win.

In the current tournament, India has yet to play against Namibia and the Netherlands. While upsets can occur in T20 Cricket, India’s robust performance and home advantage suggest they are well-positioned to continue their unbeaten record against associate teams.
