Abhishek Sharma is still unwell and is expected to miss the match against Namibia on February 12 in Delhi. He played in the opening game of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 against the USA in Mumbai but has not fully recovered. Abhishek did not participate in training on Tuesday, while Sanju Samson practiced intensively in the nets.
Most team members, including all-rounder Washington Sundar, participated in the training session. Team India’s batting coach Ryan ten Doeschate confirmed Abhishek’s condition, stating, “Abhishek is having stomach issues, but we hope he will be fit for the playing XI.”
Abhishek batted during India’s innings at Wankhede Stadium on February 7 but did not field. He was out for zero runs against the USA.
In Abhishek’s absence, Samson and Ishan Kishan paired up for batting. Samson had previously been dropped from the XI for the match against the USA, having struggled during the five-match series against New Zealand, scoring just 46 runs in five innings. The team management chose to replace him with Kishan.
During training, Samson faced bowlers Arshdeep Singh, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya, and a net bowler but appeared to be having a tough time.
Over the past year, Abhishek has performed exceptionally well, contributing significant match-winning performances. He currently holds the No. 1 spot in the ICC Rankings for T20I batters.
