Sourav Ganguly is excited about the upcoming India vs Pakistan match in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, set for February 15 in Colombo. He expressed that it will be a significant game, noting that defeating India will be a tough challenge for Pakistan due to India’s strong team.
This comment came after the Pakistani government permitted its national team to play against India on that date.
The decision followed a briefing by PCB head Mohsin Naqvi to key leaders about discussions between the Pakistan Cricket Board, the International Cricket Council, and the Bangladesh Cricket Board.
Initially, Pakistan had declined to compete against India in solidarity with Bangladesh, which was eliminated from the tournament when the ICC dismissed its request to relocate matches from India over security worries.
Pakistan’s Prime Minister also spoke with Sri Lanka’s President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, who urged him to reconsider his position, emphasizing the potential losses for Sri Lanka if the match was canceled.
After the ICC’s meeting in Lahore with the PCB and BCB, BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul encouraged Pakistan to participate in the match against India.
Ganguly added that the tournament has begun positively and highlighted his favorite Indian players: Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav.
In their opening match, India won against the USA by 29 runs, with Suryakumar scoring an impressive 84 runs off 49 balls.
The Indian team is currently in Delhi preparing to face Namibia on February 12.
