Indian cricketer Abhishek Sharma may miss the T20 World Cup match against Namibia on Thursday due to a stomach infection. Sources from the BCCI report that Abhishek has been hospitalized in New Delhi for the past two days as doctors conduct tests to assess his condition, making a quick recovery for the game unlikely.
Abhishek was replaced during the opening match against the USA last Saturday after failing to score, with Sanju Samson stepping in for him.
As India prepares to face Namibia, team management is focusing on Abhishek’s recovery for the important match against Pakistan on February 15 in Colombo. Stomach infections can significantly affect stamina, so his capacity to travel, train, and play in the upcoming days is uncertain.
Samson has been practicing intensively with batting coach Sitanshu Kotak, indicating he could be the chosen replacement if Abhishek is unable to travel to Sri Lanka. It’s worth mentioning that Abhishek attended the team dinner hosted by head coach Gautam Gambhir on Sunday but had to leave early due to feeling unwell.
