India began their T20 World Cup 2026 journey with a 29-run win against the USA in Mumbai. Led by Suryakumar Yadav, the team aims to keep their momentum in the next match against Namibia, scheduled for February 12 in Delhi.

Before this important group-stage match, captain Suryakumar Yadav discussed India’s efforts to defend their title and shared insights on why the team has performed so well in T20 Cricket over the past 18 months.

Suryakumar emphasized that the players’ focus is on team goals rather than individual achievements. He expressed confidence that India can successfully defend their title, having won the 2024 tournament in the West Indies and the USA.

“When team goals come first, it often leads to success. We can hinder ourselves if we overthink or adopt a negative outlook, but I believe this team is well-prepared for the T20 World Cup. I see no reason why we can’t go all the way,” Suryakumar said on JioStar’s ‘Follow the Blues’.

Regarding the importance of player expression, Suryakumar stressed that free speech is vital for teamwork.

“Honesty and the freedom to speak are crucial in team sports. Listening to teammates can provide insights that help the team. Allowing players to play naturally, which has been key to our recent success, fosters a positive team environment,” he said.

India is grouped with the USA, Pakistan, Namibia, and the Netherlands in this tournament.
