Irfan Pathan and Shahid Afridi have had a longstanding rivalry during their cricketing careers. They frequently competed against each other in intense matches, with Irfan often coming out on top. Their disagreements continued even after their retirement. Recently, Irfan was asked about his favorite memory from matches between India and Pakistan, especially since the two teams are scheduled to meet again on February 15 in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
During a live broadcast of the India vs Namibia match on February 12, Aakash Chopra asked Irfan and Parthiv Patel to share their memories from the famous rivalry.
Parthiv mentioned the bowl-out that occurred during the 2007 T20 World Cup, where both teams were tied, leading to India winning the match.
Irfan favored the final match between India and Pakistan in the first T20 World Cup. He was awarded Player of the Match for his impressive performance, which included taking Afridi’s wicket.
“I would go with the final as we won the trophy,” he said.
Aakash showed a clip of Afridi’s dismissal and made a light-hearted remark.
“Shahid Afridi will unretire after watching this,” he commented.
Irfan responded quickly, “I will dismiss him again if he unretires. This is my guarantee. I will train hard for a month,” he joked.
India won the match against Pakistan by 5 runs, with Irfan taking three wickets and allowing just 16 runs in his four overs.
