Suryakumar Yadav is confident about facing Usman Tariq in the upcoming India-Pakistan match on February 15. The team has prepared well for Tariq, who has gained attention for his unique bowling style while playing in four T20 internationals.
In a press conference in Colombo, Suryakumar addressed questions about Tariq’s bowling with assurance.
“In exams, if you encounter a tough question, you don’t give up; you try to answer it,” he said.
Tariq has excelled in leagues worldwide, taking 70 wickets in 42 T20 matches with an average of 15.94 and an economy rate of 6.79. His pause before delivering the ball has sparked discussions among fans and former players, prompting questions about the legitimacy of his action.
Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin suggested a strategy for dealing with Tariq. “If he pauses before delivering, the batter can step away, claiming that they weren’t sure when the ball would be bowled,” he noted.
If batters feel uncertain about the timing of his delivery, they can adjust accordingly.
Suryakumar assured that the team has prepared for bowlers with unconventional actions. “We have worked on our strategies against such bowlers,” he added.
With the match set to take place on a pitch conducive to spin, Tariq is expected to be pivotal for Pakistan, while India is ready for the challenge.
