Abhishek Sharma is the top-ranked batter in the ICC rankings for the 2026 T20 World Cup. However, he has struggled in his first three games and aims to bounce back in the Super 8s.

Abhishek began his International career strongly, averaging over 35 in 40 T20Is with a strike rate above 190. His performance was key in India’s success at the 2025 Asia Cup, where he received the Player of the Tournament award.

With high expectations for the World Cup, Abhishek has yet to score in three matches, with his dismissals being unpredictable. In his first match against the USA, he aimed for a six off Ali Khan’s first delivery but was caught at deep cover, despite good contact.

He missed the match against Namibia due to illness but returned against Pakistan, where Salman Ali Agha bowled him out with a mistimed shot.

On February 18, Abhishek hoped to score against the Netherlands before the Super 8s. However, he attempted a pull shot off-spinner Aryan Dutt and was bowled after the ball slipped past the bat.

Before the Netherlands match, Sunil Gavaskar advised him to focus on scoring his first run before attempting big shots. Unfortunately, he continued his aggressive approach, which did not pay off.

Abhishek Sharma’s Form Dip Raises Concerns for India

Every cricketer faces challenges, and for Abhishek, this may be his first major struggle internationally. Head coach Gautam Gambhir could provide valuable support and share his own experiences overcoming similar difficulties in his career.

Reaching out to mentor Yuvraj Singh, known for his comebacks, could be helpful for Abhishek. His talent is undeniable, and one good performance could change his fortunes, potentially making him the tournament’s top scorer or even winning him another Player of the Tournament award. With tougher competition ahead, the hope is he finds his form soon.
