Pakistan advanced to the Super 8 stage of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after defeating Namibia by 102 runs at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. They scored 199 runs with 3 wickets lost, featuring a century from Sahibzada Farhan. Namibia concluded their tournament winless, getting bowled out for less than the target.
This win was vital for Pakistan’s chances. After their loss to India, they needed a second victory to secure their qualification. The USA could have overtaken them in points if they had lost again. Pakistan managed the challenges of the match through effective batting and bowling.
Following the match, the Pakistani players seemed relaxed and confident. The press conference started with vice-captain Shadab Khan addressing the media.
He talked about the strong public criticism faced after the loss to India and defended the current team, responding firmly to the topic.
Shadab Khan Defends Team, Mentions Pakistan’s Historic 2021 Win
Shadab noted that, while players may face criticism, they made history by defeating India in the 2021 T20 World Cup. He mentioned how past players struggled against India in World Cups, contrasting it with his team’s achievement in Dubai.
Shadab said:
“Our ex-cricketers have their own opinions. They have done well for Pakistan, and at the end of the day, they have also never defeated India in the World Cup. We were the ones who defeated India in the 2021 World Cup.”
He added:
“In World Cups, we have beaten India only once. Yes, they are legends, but they have never done anything remarkable against India in the World Cup.”
