WPL 2026: Wareham Reflects on Making an Impact With Bat and Ball

Former Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Amir has stated that he believes the Indian team will not reach the semi-finals of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. India remains unbeaten in the tournament so far, having won against the USA, Namibia, Pakistan, and the Netherlands. Their next matches will be against South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies.

India’s batting order has been inconsistent, with key players failing to perform. Abhishek Sharma has recorded three ducks, and Tilak Varma has struggled to make a significant impact. Amir pointed out that teams like the West Indies and South Africa could take advantage of India’s issues.

During a recent show, Amir was asked for his predictions on the semi-final teams from Group A of the Super 8 stage. He chose South Africa and the West Indies.

When the host suggested that India might not make it to the knockout stage, Amir disagreed.

“India has experienced batting collapses except for the match against Pakistan. There will be significant pressure in the Super 8 matches. South Africa and the West Indies have the ability to defeat any team,” he noted.

India’s first match in the Super 8s will be against South Africa on February 22. They will then face Zimbabwe on February 24 in Chennai, with their final match against two-time champions West Indies at Eden Gardens on March 1.

Amir also selected Pakistan and New Zealand as his picks for the semi-finals from Group B, alongside England and Sri Lanka. The Super 8 stage will kick off on February 21, starting with Pakistan’s match against New Zealand at R Premadasa Stadium.
