England has reached the Super 8 round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, but the journey has been challenging. Under the leadership of Harry Brook, the team has won matches, but their overall match time in the tournament includes some unfinished games.
Jos Buttler, the opener, has been struggling, which is a key concern for England. He has played four matches, scoring only 26 runs in total, with scores of 21, 3, and another 3. These numbers are not what is expected from a player of his experience and talent.
Buttler Shares His Thoughts
On the podcast ‘For the Love of Cricket,’ hosted by Stuart Broad, Buttler discussed his personal struggles and the state of England’s campaign. He expressed his disappointment over his inability to score runs consistently.
Buttler said:
“In the first two games, I got starts but couldn’t contribute meaningfully, which is frustrating. Then I had a couple of low scores against Scotland and Italy.”
He reflected on his challenges and stated a desire to improve as the tournament progresses.

Importance of Buttler’s Performance
Buttler is a vital player for the England cricket team. His return to form could greatly enhance the team’s performance. He had good starts against Nepal and West Indies but failed to capitalize on those opportunities.
Before the World Cup, Buttler scored 17, 39, and 25 runs during the T20 series against Sri Lanka, indicating he can reach good positions but struggles to sustain his innings.
He mentioned that the pressure he puts on himself might be too much to handle.
Buttler added:
“I found myself getting out between 10s and 20s often – getting starts and then finding ways to get out. Maybe I’m trying a bit too hard instead of staying relaxed at the crease.”
Captain Harry Brook needs to clarify his strategy with the team, as his current decisions have raised questions among the players. England can advance to the semi-finals if both Buttler and other seasoned players find their form.
England hopes that Buttler can regain his top performance, which will drive the team towards success in the upcoming Super 8 stage.
