Keshav Maharaj will lead South Africa’s T20I team in a five-match series against New Zealand. Cricket South Africa (CSA) has released a 15-member squad that includes experienced players and some exciting new talent. Maharaj, who has previously captained the team, takes on this role after players return from their World Cup responsibilities.

The T20I series is scheduled from March 15 to March 26. Only two other players from the World Cup squad, spinner George Linde and all-rounder Jason Smith, will join Maharaj in the touring team.

The squad also features promising newcomers like Connor Esterhuizen, Dian Forrester, Jordan Hermann, Eathan Bosch, and Nqobani Mokoena. In addition, Tony de Zorzi returns from an injury layoff. The series will conclude on March 25, just before the Indian Premier League starts on March 26.

Including five uncapped players aligns with the lead-up to the T20 World Cup 2026 in India and Sri Lanka, which ends on March 8, just one week before the series against New Zealand. Under Aiden Markram’s captaincy, the Proteas reached the Super 8 stage in the tournament.

South Africa’s squad for the T20 series against New Zealand marks a new chapter under Keshav Maharaj. With a mix of experienced players and new talent, this series is a chance to assess the team’s depth ahead of a busy International calendar. As veteran players manage their workloads post-World Cup, this tour could influence the Proteas’ strategies for upcoming major tournaments.
