England batter Jacob Bethell expressed satisfaction with Australia’s early exit from the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He noted it was a significant moment to see Australia eliminated from the global tournament. The team’s losses to Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe were crucial in their failure to advance from the group stage. In an interview with BBC’s Test Match Special, Bethell commented that Australia struggled to find their form throughout the competition.

“It was good to see. Australia didn’t find their rhythm in the tournament. Poor performance in group stage matches puts you at risk of being eliminated. It was unfortunate for them,” Bethell stated.

Australia began their campaign with a 67-run victory over Ireland on February 11 but then suffered a 23-run defeat to Zimbabwe. Their exit was confirmed when Sri Lanka defeated them by eight wickets. Australia was hoping for results from other matches, but the ZIM vs IRE game was abandoned due to rain, leaving both teams with shared points and ending Australia’s chances of reaching the Super 8s.

Fans noted that Australia seemed to prioritize Test Cricket over T20Is. However, Adam Zampa rejected this criticism, affirming that both the coaching staff and players worked hard for the tournament, and their dedication should not be questioned.

England advanced to the next stage after winning against Nepal, Scotland, and Italy, with their only loss coming against the West Indies.

Next, England will face Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and New Zealand in the Super 8 round.
