WPL 2026: Wareham Reflects on Making an Impact With Bat and Ball

Before the IPL, Rohit Sharma has laid down a key condition for the Mumbai Indians. He has made it clear that he no longer wants to be an “Impact Player.” Reports indicate that he has told the Mumbai Indians management he wants to play full matches in IPL 2026 and does not find it acceptable to just come in to bat and then sit out while someone else fields.

Last season, during the Indian Premier League 2025, Rohit mostly came in just to bat, and he was replaced by an Impact Substitute when the team was fielding. This approach did not sit well with many, as having Rohit on the field is viewed as more enjoyable.

Interestingly, at the age of 38, Rohit appears to be fitter than ever. He has been focusing on his fitness with the goal of participating in the 2027 World Cup. After stepping down from Test matches and ODI captaincy, he aims to give selectors no reason to drop him over fitness issues.

In IPL 2025, Rohit scored 418 runs in 15 matches with an impressive strike rate of nearly 150, making him the second-highest run-scorer for the team behind Suryakumar Yadav. His performance still indicates he is a strong player.

The key question now is what happens next.

If Mumbai Indians accept his request, it will be positive, and fans will see Rohit playing enthusiastically. However, what if the management does not agree?

Could Rohit consider leaving Mumbai Indians? Or might he surprise everyone with a retirement announcement from the IPL?

This uncertainty has raised questions among fans. Rohit is not just looking to play; he wants to extend and strengthen his career.

Now, it remains to be seen how MI will respond.
