The West Indies Cricket team is performing well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 and has advanced to the Super Eight stage confidently. They are set to play Zimbabwe in their first Super Eight match after finishing the group stage with a perfect record.

The team reviewed Romario Shepherd’s fitness ahead of the crucial match. The all-rounder has missed the last two group matches due to a minor injury. Head coach Daren Sammy has provided a positive update about his condition.

Strategic Decision by Team Management

Shepherd sustained a minor injury during the group stage and did not play against Nepal and Italy. The team brought in Matthew Forde to fill his spot in the lineup. Management chose to let Shepherd heal instead of rushing him back.

This decision has benefitted the team. Shepherd was seen practicing with the squad before the match at Wankhede Stadium, displaying strong bowling and good batting control.

Daren Sammy spoke about Shepherd’s fitness.

Daren Sammy said:

“He practiced well yesterday. Bowled quite well, you know, hit the ball very, very cleanly. The good thing for us is that everybody is available for selection. Going into the Super Eight, that’s what you want. So I’m glad to know and happy to know that all my soldiers are ready to go out to war.”

Important Return Before Zimbabwe Match

Romario Shepherd has been a crucial player for West Indies in this tournament. He took five wickets and achieved a hat-trick in the opening match against Scotland. His all-around abilities make him a valuable asset to the team.

Zimbabwe has also performed well, entering the Super Eight stage undefeated. Historically, West Indies has won three out of four T20 matches against Zimbabwe. Both teams recognize the new challenges this stage presents.

Shepherd’s anticipated return will add balance to the West Indies lineup. His contribution with both bat and ball will be key in moving closer to the knockout stage.

Both teams aim to begin the Super Eight with a win in what promises to be an exciting match.
