Former India selector Krishnamachari Srikkanth criticized Tilak Varma following his early dismissal in the T20 World Cup match against South Africa on Sunday. Tilak faced pressure due to his low strike rate before the Super 8 game. His innings ended quickly after he played a poor shot in the second over while India was chasing 188 runs, adding more pressure on the batting lineup.

Recently, Tilak was a key player in India’s Asia Cup victory, performing well in the final against Pakistan. However, since recovering from an injury during the T20I series against New Zealand, he has struggled for form. In this T20 World Cup, he has scored 107 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 118.88, leading to questions about his place in the team.

Srikkanth questioned India’s team selection and expressed frustration with Tilak’s shot. He suggested that changes might be necessary in the playing XI, indicating that Sanju Samson could replace Tilak after what he described as a “very bad” shot in the last match.

“If Sanju Samson is included in the playing XI, then Tilak Varma may have to be dropped. Many are already questioning Tilak’s position in the team. After the shot he played against South Africa, it’s likely he could be left out for the next game. It was a poor shot, and he didn’t deserve to stay after that,” Srikkanth mentioned on his YouTube channel.
