England made history in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 by beating Pakistan by two runs in their second Super 8 match. This win marked England as the first team to qualify for the semi-finals of the tournament.

With this achievement, England now has six semi-final appearances, surpassing India’s five. India reached the semi-finals in 2007, 2014, 2016, 2022, and 2024.

England Matches Pakistan’s Record

England has matched Pakistan’s record for the most semi-final appearances in the tournament, with both teams having six appearances.

England’s first semi-final appearance was in the ICC World Twenty20 2010, where they won the tournament by defeating Australia in the final. This marked England’s first ICC title.

The team reached the semi-finals again in 2016, winning against New Zealand but later losing to the West Indies in the final.

England has consistently reached the semi-finals in 2021, 2022, and 2024, winning their second T20 World Cup title at the 2022 tournament in Australia.

England’s Five Consecutive Semi-Finals

The English team has set a record for the most consecutive appearances in T20 World Cup semi-finals, reaching this stage in every tournament since 2016. This is their fifth consecutive semi-final appearance within a decade.

Previously, Pakistan held the record for consecutive semi-final appearances, winning their only T20 World Cup in 2009 against Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka also had four consecutive semi-final appearances from 2009 to 2014 and won the final against India in 2014.

Resilient Performance in 2026

The 2026 tournament presented challenges for England. Under the leadership of Harry Brook, the team won their first match against Nepal by four runs but faced a 30-run defeat against the West Indies. They advanced to the Super 8 stage after defeating Scotland and securing a difficult win against Italy.

In the Super 8, England won matches against Sri Lanka and Pakistan by 51 runs and two runs, respectively. They will play their final Super 8 match against New Zealand before moving on to the knockout stage.

England aims to continue demonstrating its T20 Cricket skills as they pursue another title.
