MCA President Naik Expresses Joy Over Cricket in Mumbai, Commits to Improvement

The BCCI has confirmed that Nagpur, Chennai, Guwahati, Ranchi, and Ahmedabad will host the five Tests of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2027. This means that Mumbai will not host an India-Australia Test for the first time since 2004.

“Every match counts—be it a Ranji Trophy game, an International match, an IPL game, or a club match. We are pleased that Cricket is active in Mumbai. Our focus will be on improving the game,” said a representative.

“We adhere to the guidelines set by our parent association and ensure that we implement them effectively,” Naik mentioned to reporters during a recognition event of the MCA at Khar Gymkhana on Thursday.

Mumbai will host the third ODI between India and Zimbabwe on January 9, 2027. When questioned about the absence of a major Test match, Naik stated that such decisions are beyond his control.

“I can only discuss matters related to the MCA. For decisions about the BCCI, you should inquire with their office, where an Apex Council member is available. I cannot speak on that,” he added.

Mumbai will receive the third ODI between India and Zimbabwe on January 9, 2027. When asked about not hosting a marquee Test, Naik reiterated that those decisions are not made by him.

“All achievements are thanks to the club members, including the secretary. Success is a team effort, and everyone here has contributed significantly to MCA’s success. Dilip sir and Diana madam laid the groundwork years ago, enabling young players to represent Mumbai now,” he concluded.
