The start of the County Championship Division Two 2026 was set for Sunday, April 05, but windstorms from Storm Dave have caused damage at Banks Homes Riverside, the venue for the match between Durham and Kent.
Consequently, the club has issued a statement indicating that the game will be delayed, and spectators will not be allowed entry until further notice.
“Storm Dave affected the North East early Sunday morning, causing damage at the venue. As a result, no spectators will be allowed in until further notice,” Durham noted in a statement on April 05.
“The Club spoke with match officials and venue staff this morning. Due to the condition of the pitch and other structures, play will not start on time. We will provide an update soon. Our ground safety team has deemed it unsafe for spectators to enter,” the club added.
The statement highlighted that only players and match officials will be present at the ground, hoping that play will start when conditions improve. Durham plans to issue further notifications with details about the match’s start time and other updates.
“The ground will remain closed to members and spectators until further notice. Please do not travel to Banks Homes Riverside for today’s match. The safety of players, staff, and spectators is our top priority, so we advise against travel to the venue. We will provide an update soon,” the club concluded.
