The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced an increase in salaries and match fees for all men’s First-Class cricketers to encourage greater participation in domestic cricket. Following the revision, every cricketer will now receive a minimum salary of BDT 40,000, an increase of BDT 10,000 from the previous minimum of BDT 30,000. The top pay grade, Grade A, is set at BDT 65,000.
This decision came during the first meeting of the new ad hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal. Tamim was surprised to learn about the low pay for cricketers in the domestic leagues, prompting the committee to act quickly to boost their salaries and match fees.
“There has been little increment over the last three to four years. The previous salary structure was very low for these players. They put in a lot of effort, and cricket thrives because of them. They deserve better pay. While this may not solve everything, it is definitely a step up, given budget constraints,” said Tamim according to ESPNcricinfo.
