Wasim Jaffer suggested that Sanjiv Goenka, owner of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), might make significant changes to the team after two disappointing seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The former Indian opener indicated that Goenka is eager to win the IPL trophy, which could lead to a team overhaul. Jaffer pointed out that head coach Justin Langer has had three years to deliver results but has struggled despite having a talented support staff.

“From what I see, I believe there will be major changes. Sanjiv Goenka really wants that trophy, so he’ll likely do whatever it takes. I think it’s fair since the coach (Justin Langer) has had three years but hasn’t succeeded, even with a high-profile support staff. It seems like they couldn’t build the team they wanted during the auction,” Jaffer shared in a video on his YouTube channel.

LSG finished seventh in IPL 2025 and aimed for better results this year. Unfortunately, their performance only worsened, leaving them at the bottom of the standings.

Wasim Jaffer criticizes LSG management after poor IPL season

Jaffer expressed disappointment with LSG’s management for sidelining promising players like Abdul Samad and Ayush Badoni during the season. He also noted that Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram were not placed in their best batting positions.

“The batting lineup was strong. Abdul Samad played well today, but he was left out earlier. Ayush Badoni, who has performed well over the past few years, was also overlooked. Nicholas Pooran was used in various positions, and Markram was placed lower in the order. These are just a few of the mistakes I recall,” Jaffer stated.

Jaffer criticized LSG management for not selecting a quality spinner during the auction. He believed that Goenka, who he has seen on television, would likely react strongly after two poor seasons.

“They didn’t pick a solid spinner despite having many options. Mistakes were made. Sanjiv Goenka has trusted the management, but they haven’t done their job well. Knowing him from what I’ve seen, he should take firm action since the team has underperformed for two consecutive years. So, I expect to see significant changes,” he concluded.
