Abhishek needed just 22 balls on Friday to complete his half-century against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025 match at Dubai International Cricket Stadium.
World No. 1 T20I batter Abhishek Sharma opened the innings for India on Friday (September 26) against Sri Lanka in Dubai and scored 61 runs from 31 balls. During his stay at the crease, the left-handed batter from Amritsar slammed eight fours and two sixes. Abhishek needed 22 balls to complete his fifty on Friday. He crossed the 50-run mark by hitting Nuwan Thushara for a four on the fourth ball of the sixth over.
Abhishek is the third Indian batter after Suryakumar Yadav and Rohit Sharma to cross the 50-run mark in less than 25 balls six times in T20Is.

During his 61-run knock at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Abhishek also equalled Rohit’s record of scoring seven consecutive 30-plus scores in T20Is. In the history of T20I cricket, before Abhishek, only Rohit and Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan had scored seven 30+ scores in a row.

Abhishek now also holds the record of scoring the most runs in one edition of the Asia Cup T20Is. Abhishek needed 34 runs to break Mohammad Rizwan’s record of 281 runs, and he achieved the objective during the 5th over bowled by Dushmantha Chameera.
He later went on to become the first batter to score 300 runs in one edition of the Asia Cup T20Is.

Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan was the first one to score 300 runs in a T20I tournament, and he was joined by Mahela Jayawardene in 2010, Virat Kohli in 2014, Aaron Finch in 2018, Babar Azam in 2021, Mohammad Rizwan in 2022 and Phil Salt in 2023.
