Amidst tensions between India and Pakistan relations post the Pahalgam attacks and operation Sindoor as a response, there has been a question hanging around the India vs Pakistan clash in sports. While the clearance was made to play in the multi-national tournaments, the tensions between the players were palpable on the ground when the sides met in the ongoing Asia Cup. In the previous game, when these two sides played in the Super fours stage, Sahibzada Farhan, after scoring his half-century, and Haris Rauf, near the boundary line while fielding, were seen making provoking gestures. Pakistan’s head coach Mike Hesson, speaking about the gestures, said Pakistan is a passionate team.
“Look, my message to the players is just focus on cricket and that certainly we will be doing. In terms of gestures there has always been passion in terms of high-pressure games,” said New Zealander Hesson. Earlier, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav has dedicated the win against Pakistan in the group stage to the victims of the Pahalgam attack. “We stand with the families of victims of the Pahalgam attack. We express our solidarity and we want to dedicate today’s win to the Armed Forces,” Surya said to the broadcasters after the game.
Both Suryakumar and Pakistan pacer Rauf have been found guilty of breaching the International Cricket Council’s code of conduct. After the hearings that concluded Friday, match referee Richie Richardson has fined both players 30 per cent of their match fee, while another Pakistan player Farhan has been let off with a warning for his gun celebration after reaching 50.”
Pakistan deserves trophy, says Hesson
Both sides will meet again in the final on Sunday for the third time this tournament. “We have to be good enough to put India under pressure for longer because there is a reason why they are ranked the top side in the world,” he said. “We have to put them under pressure and that will be our challenge,” Hesson said, speaking about the contest.
“I think the way we played against India in the last match was a huge step up from the first game. The first game was a bit passive, we allowed India to control the game. The last match we had that game by the scruff of the neck for long periods and it took an exceptional innings from Abhishek Sharma that took the game away from us,” Hesson said.
“We have deserved this opportunity so it’s now up to us to make the most of it,” added Hesson. We have been trying to be in a position to win the trophy,” he concluded the matter.
