Sanju Samson shines as India’s Impact Player with a crucial 39 and key stumping in the Super Over victory over Sri Lanka in the Asia Cup 2025 Super 4.

Star wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson was on Friday awarded India’s Impact Player of the match, after he smacked a 23-ball 39 and also stumped out a set Kusal Perera, helping India take the game into a Super Over. India won the final Super 4 game in the Super Over.

Star India spinner Varun Chakravarthy shortened his length and forced Perera to come out of his crease and smacked him down the ground. He was beaten fair and square and Samson completed the easiest of stumpings.

Earlier, the star Indian wicketkeeper gained much-needed confidence with a useful 39 after Abhishek Sharma’s familiar early assault.

Samson was handed the Impact Player medal by physiotherapist Yogesh Parmar.

“This might be a small one name, a very big one, but it really means a lot. All this small appreciation really means a lot to all of us and I personally take a lot of pride to be in this dressing room,” Samson said in his speech.

“It isn’t easy and we all do and I am very, very happy to contribute and give my best as we all do. Thank you so much,” Samson said.

India edge past Sri Lanka by a whisker

This was the highest score by any side in the current tournament, going past India’s 188 against Oman and Afghanistan’s same total versus Hong Kong.

While Abhishek blasted his way to a 31-ball-61, Samson was in his element at No. 5, playing some breathtaking sixes in his 22-ball knock.

Tilak Varma anchored the innings well to finish on an unbeaten 49 off 34 deliveries, an innings that will do him a world of good.
