Mithun Manhas Elected New BCCI President: A Look At BCCI’s New Office Bearers | Cricket News

Former Delhi cricketer Mithun Manhas was on Sunday, September 28, elected the new BCCI president, becoming the first player to be born in Jammu and Kashmir to hold the position. He is the 37th elected individual to the prestigious post.

Manhas was the sole candidate in the running for the president’s position, which had remained vacant since former India all-rounder Roger Binny resigned in August.

Manhas, who will turn 46 in October, was part of the sub-committee appointed by BCCI to run the Jammu & Kashmir Cricket Association.

Other changes in BCCI

Rajeev Shukla, BCCI vice-president, had been serving as the interim president since Binny’s retirement. He remains the vice-president, while Devajit Saikia continues in his role as the board secretary.

A second change among the BCCI office bearers sees former Karnataka and India spinner Raghuram Bhat assume the role of treasurer. He has been the Karnataka State Cricket Association president since 2022 and his term ends on September 30.

Bhat’s playing career for India lasted only two Tests in 1983, but he was a domestic stalwart, taking 374 wickets in 82 first-class games for Karnataka.

After retirement, Bhat was involved in umpiring and coaching at various levels, including the head coach of Goa, before turning his attention to administration.

Bhat has been leading the association ever since and his tenure will end on September 30. Beyond his affable exterior, he is a wise man aware of the nuances of administration and the intricate layers of rules.

Prabhtej Singh Bhatia, the former treasurer, is the new joint secretary.

Former Indian cricketer Pragyan Ojha and RP Singh, meanwhile, have replaced S Sharath and Subroto Banerjee in the senior men’s selection panel.

The committee is led by former Indian cricketer Ajit Agarkar, whose term runs till next year’s T20 World Cup and has Ajay Ratra and SS Das as well.
