The 13th edition of the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 will be played between September 30 and November 2.

The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup returns for its 13th edition on Tuesday, September 30, with India aiming to win it for the first time. Previously, India made it to the finals of the event in 2017, where they were defeated by England.

Australia is the defending champion, having won the trophy by beating England in the final in 2022. New Zealand is the only other country to have the event. The Kiwis achieved their victory 25 years ago.

The Women’s Cricket World Cup is considered the pinnacle of international women’s cricket. Held every four years, it currently features eight teams, with plans to expand the field to ten teams starting in 2029.

The eight teams in the 2025 edition are: India, Australia, Bangladesh, England, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa and Sri Lanka.

This edition of the Women’s World Cup is being held in India and Sri Lanka, but Pakistan will play all of its fixtures in Colombo, due to the current political tensions with India.

The top four teams advance to the semi-finals, where the group leader faces the fourth-placed side, while the second and third-ranked teams compete against each other.

Harmanpreet Kaur is gearing up to lead India for the first time at an ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, with many watching closely as she aims to steer the team to its maiden ICC championship.

India has won 10 of their 14 ODIs this year and, with home conditions expected to help them, they stand out as serious contenders for the World Cup title.

“I have often been asked what this World Cup means to me and the Indian cricket team. My answer to that question is straightforward – It’s a chance to create history,” Kaur said.

The final is scheduled for November 2 and will take place in Colombo if Pakistan reach the decider. Otherwise, it will be held at Navi Mumbai in India.

This marks the fourth occasion that India will host the women’s ODI World Cup, with previous tournaments held in 1978, 1997, and 2013. As for Sri Lanka, this will be their first time as hosts.
