Gautam Gambhir and Kuldeep Yadav arrive in Ahmedabad ahead of India’s Test against West Indies at Narendra Modi Stadium after Asia Cup success.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir and star spinner Kuldeep Yadav were spotted at the Ahmedabad airport on Tuesday, two days before India take on West Indies in the first of the two Tests at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The duo seemingly flew directly from Dubai to Ahmedabad.
Kuldeep is coming off a successful outing at the Asia Cup, where India triumphed over arch-rivals Pakistan in the final on Sunday, September 28.
Kuldeep was miles ahead of other bowlers with 17 wickets from seven games, seven scalps more than his nearest rival, Shaheen Shah Afridi (10 wickets from seven matches). His best figures were 4/7 and the economy rate was a measly 6.27.

Kuldeep last played a Test in October 2024 against New Zealand in Bengaluru, where he picked three wickets in the first innings, but India slumped to an eight-wicket loss to the visitors.
Kuldeep expectedly didn’t feature in India’s tours of Australia and England but with Ravichandran Ashwin retired, he, Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel are expected to feature in the first Test against West Indies.
Kuldeep swelled his Asia Cup wicket tally (across ODI and T20I formats) to 36 to go past the previous record set by former Sri Lankan pacer Lasith Malinga, 33.
In the final, if Kuldeep Yadav (17 wickets in tournament) wreaked havoc that saw Pakistan lose their last nine wickets for a mere 33 runs, Tilak Varma displayed unusual calm after the team suffered its first top-order collapse.
The home Test series against New Zealand was Gambhir’s last Test assignment at home and a 0-3 defeat marred his image as a coach. Against a West Indies side that hasn’t had a good time in international cricket of late, Gambhir has a big opportunity to improve his Test coaching skills.
