Mount Maunganui will host the first T20I of the three-match series between New Zealand and Australia on Wednesday, October 1.
In a build-up towards the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, Trans-Tasman rivals New Zealand and Australia will fight it out for the Chappell-Hadlee Trophy. New Zealand host Australia for a three-match T20I series, which starts off with an exciting opening game at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday, October 1.
With a number of incumbents absent, the series presents the two teams an opportunity to test their squad depths ahead of the T20 World Cup.
While the hosts are missing regular skipper Mitchell Santner, Will O’Rourke, Glenn Phillips and Finn Allen due to injuries, Australia will be without injured Pat Cummins, Glenn Maxwell and recently retired Mitchell Starc.
Spin bowling all-rounder Michael Bracewell will lead the hosts, and the visitors will play under the leadership of Mitchell Marsh. New Zealand played a T20I tri-series in Zimbabwe under Bracewell’s leadership and won all five matches, whereas the Aussies defeated South Africa in two out of three T20I matches played in front of home fans.
