The ongoing 2nd T20I between New Zealand and Australia at Bay Oval is Sodhi’s 127th match for the Black Caps in the shortest format.

Ish Sodhi entered his name in the history books on Friday, October 3, by becoming the most capped player in T20Is for New Zealand. The ongoing second T20I between New Zealand and Australia at Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui is Sodhi’s 127th match for the Black Caps. The 32-year-old spinner, who was born in Ludhiana (India), broke Tim Southee’s record. Southee played 126 T20Is for the Kiwis from 2008 to 2024.

In T20Is, Sodhi has picked up 150 wickets for the Black Caps, whereas Southee finished his career with 164 T20Is.

The second T20I between New Zealand and Australia at Bay Oval is a must-win for the Kiwis. If the hosts lose today’s match in Mount Maunganui, Australia will seal the T20I series. The Black Caps lost the series opener at the same venue by 6 wickets on October 1.

In the first T20I, Tim Robinson scored 106 not out from 66 balls (6 fours, 5 sixes) to help them post a total of 181/6 in 20 overs. But the 182-run target didn’t prove to be enough, and riding on captain Mitchell Marsh’s 85-run knock, they chased it down in 16.3 overs for the loss of only four wickets.

For the second T20I, the Kiwis have made three changes to their playing XI. In addition to Sodhi, Jimmy Neesham and Ben Sears are also back in the side.
