The decision to leave Fakhar Zaman out of Pakistan’s playing XI for the second T20I against Australia has sparked considerable discussion. The match, taking place at the famous Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, saw Pakistan win the toss and choose to bat first. Fakhar’s absence was a major point of interest even before the match started.

No place for Fakhar Zaman in Pakistan’s playing XI

Fakhar Zaman was omitted from the team after a lackluster showing in the series opener, where he scored just 10 runs from 16 balls.

Former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has voiced his support for Fakhar, expressing disagreement with the decision to exclude him. Younis emphasized that Fakhar performs best at the beginning of the innings and that moving him lower down the order limits his abilities.

Younis remarked that allowing Fakhar to open could lead to strong starts during the powerplay, potentially even more effective than Australia’s strategy. He pointed out that Fakhar’s natural playing style is best utilized when he opens, allowing him to take advantage of fielding restrictions.

He further noted that placing Fakhar at No. 4 or No. 5 does not align with his strengths. While some middle-order players can adjust to the opening role, it is often more difficult for openers to succeed lower down the order.

Younis suggested that if an opening position is not available, Fakhar should be positioned at No. 3, a place where he has previously achieved significant success for Pakistan.
