India’s T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav made history during the fifth match at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Saturday. He became the fastest player globally to score 3,000 runs in T20Is. Yadav is now the third Indian to reach this milestone, achieving it in just 1,822 balls, surpassing UAE’s Muhammad Waseem, who took 1,947 balls to reach the same mark.
Former Australia captains Aaron Finch and David Warner are also on the list, taking 2,077 and 2,113 balls, respectively. Indian batsmen Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli reached the milestone in 2,149 and 2,169 balls, respectively.
Before this match, Suryakumar had scored 2,967 runs in 103 T20Is, averaging 36.62 and maintaining a strike rate of 164.74, with four centuries and 23 fifties, and a highest score of 117.
He trails behind Rohit (4,231 runs in 159 T20Is at an average of 32.05, strike rate of 140.89, with five centuries and 32 fifties) and Virat Kohli (4,188 runs in 125 matches at an average of 48.69, strike rate of 137.04, with one century and several fifties) in India’s all-time T20I scoring list.
So far, 11 players have achieved 3,000 runs in T20Is. Suryakumar had a chance to join MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, and Rohit Sharma as Indian captains who scored 1,000 runs in T20Is. He needed 73 runs in the fifth game but was out for 63.
