India’s Ishan Kishan had a standout performance at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram during the fifth T20I against New Zealand. He struck an impressive 103 runs off just 43 balls, leading India to a strong total of 271/5 in their 20 overs.

Ishan Kishan reflects on his approach after impressive century

After receiving the Player of the Match award, Kishan emphasized that his focus is not on personal records but on team goals. In the post-match presentation, he mentioned the importance of an aggressive mindset, stating that slowing down for milestones can hinder the team’s scoring potential in critical overs.

Kishan believes that players should take aggressive shots when the opportunity arises rather than fixate on reaching personal milestones. He sees this strategy as key to fulfilling his potential and positively influencing match outcomes.

While he appreciated his century, Kishan acknowledged he has more to achieve, particularly in maintaining consistent performances. For him, the challenge lies in converting individual success into contributions that help the team in major tournaments.

“That is the plan nowadays for each and every player in our team. Even if you are close to a milestone, it doesn’t really matter. If you start taking singles in those overs, you feel later that you could have gone bigger, and that makes a huge difference. If the ball is there to be hit, you have to go for it. You shouldn’t think about milestones, but focus on winning matches,” Kishan stated.

Kishan aims for World Cup success

Kishan highlighted his long-term goal, which is not just to excel in bilateral series but to prepare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. He understands that achieving success on the global stage will require even greater commitment and consistency.

“It is satisfying, of course, but I still feel I am not there yet. I have done well and received these awards, but my main focus is on the World Cup. That is where the extra effort will be required. What is important is that we continue this form going forward,” he added.

With his current performance and fearless mindset, there are high expectations for Kishan’s impact in the upcoming World Cup. His ability to take charge early in the innings and maintain momentum through the middle overs positions him as a key player in T20 Cricket.
