The BCCI will award ₹7.5 crore in cash to the winning team of the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, as confirmed by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia on Saturday.
In the final match held at the Harare Sports Club, India triumphed over England by 100 runs, securing their sixth U19 Cricket World Cup title.
Saikia’s Remarks to IANS
“A cash award of ₹7.5 crore will be provided to the Indian team for their success in the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup in Zimbabwe and Namibia. We are finalizing the details regarding how to distribute this amount among players, technical staff, and the selection committee.”
A standout performance by 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who scored a century, led India to victory in the ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. Contributions also came from captain Ayush Mhatre (53) and wicket-keeper Abhigyan Kundu (40), enabling India to post a total of 411/9.
Although England started strong in their chase, their middle order faltered. Caleb Falconer’s impressive score of 115 was not enough as India secured their sixth U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup title.
This win marks a significant achievement, as India now holds both the ICC Under-19 Men’s and Women’s World Cup titles.
Saikia mentioned that the BCCI will soon release central contracts for senior men and women players. He added:
“We will be issuing an official statement shortly regarding the central contracts for senior men’s and women’s players.”
Earlier, Saikia congratulated the young Indian players on their record sixth Under-19 World Cup win, stating that this success reflects a strong player development system, competitive domestic matches, effective coaching, and a robust talent identification process.
