Gautam Gambhir and Virat Kohli’s relationship has often sparked curiosity. They had some exchanges during the Indian Premier League, and when Gambhir led the Indian team, much was discussed about their dynamics. Tensions arose after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, coinciding with Kohli’s announcement of his Test Cricket retirement.
In recent months, they have largely ignored each other. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary, Devajit Saikia, has clarified that the two share a friendly rapport and are not engaged in a feud.
“I have never seen them fighting; they have a cordial relationship,” Saikia mentioned in the India Today Podcast.
When reminded of an incident between Kohli and Gambhir in IPL 2023, he said, “I didn’t see it. I couldn’t watch every match.”
Asked whether Gambhir wishes for Kohli to leave the national team, Saikia responded firmly. “Kohli is always part of the team, and so is Gambhir. This is just a perception,” he stated.
He also dismissed claims that Kohli was pressured to retire from Test cricket. “No one can force Virat Kohli to retire. It was his choice. He is not just any player; he is a cricket legend. The board does not interfere in a player’s career,” he added.
There were rumors about Kohli and Rohit Sharma considering retirement from ODIs after the Australia series last year. Still, both players continued to perform well, addressing any doubts.
“A lot of nonsense gets written. We can’t comment on that. These topics were never discussed,” he concluded.
